About the Institute
The New Zealand Institute of Community Health Care was established by the Nurse Maude Foundation in August 2007, with the specific purpose of providing a centre of excellence for research and development projects that would lead directly to tangible improvements and the development of relevant services in community health.
Mission Statement
To contribute to best practice and improved patient outcomes in community health care through the integration of education, research and clinical practice.
We will achieve this by:
- Engaging in debate, research and the generation of new knowledge, including supporting publications and conference papers that highlight community based health care issues.
- Partnering with other organisations to pursue service development and product development projects.
- Creating career opportunities and supporting lifelong learning for community based health practitioners.
- Communicating knowledge about the outcomes of community based care.

To achieve this vision, we would like to develop partnerships with researchers and other providers who have an interest in aspects of community/home-based health care. The Institute has the advantage of being co-located with Nurse Maude, which has specific clinical and service delivery expertise in:

A significant number of our research activities involve Nurse Maude staff and services. With more than 100 years of experience, over 1200 staff involved in the provision of home based health services, Nurse Maude has a reputation for delivering some of the most challenging aspects of community health care. Through our partnership with Nurse Maude, the Institute is well positioned to become equally recognised as a national centre of research and innovation in the community based health care sector.
